Jaywant Arakeri
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Indian Institute of Science

Currently Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Mechanical Engineering. On sabbatical leave till June, 1999 at the Florida State University.

His broad research interests are in instability and turbulence in fluid flows. His doctoral work was on the synthetic turbulent boundary layer. Since then, his research has included instability and transition in unsteady boundary layers with reverse flow, unsteady boundary layer separation, turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection, double-diffusive convection and film flows. Experiments have led to a new criterion for time to transition to turbulence in unsteady wall bounded flows. A new model for the near-wall dynamics in turbulent free convection over horizontal surfaces has been proposed. His present research is on free convection in vertical tubes, mixed convection and vortex ring interaction with a cylinder.
