Laurence Armi
Professor of Oceanography, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Affiliate Professor of Fluid Mechanics, University of California, San Diego

Professor Armi earned his B.S. in math/physics from Harvey Mudd College in 1966, his M.S. in aerodynamics from the University of Southern California in 1968, and his Ph.D.in Fluid Mechanics from U.C. Berkeley in 1975. Since 1981, he has been Professor of Oceanography at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Affiliate Professor of Fluid Mechanics at U.C. San Diego. His research interests include turbulent flows, stratified flows, ocean circulation and mixing, and estuarian circulation and mixing. Prof Armi is principal investigator/ chief scientist for seagoing , laboratory and theoretical studies of turbulent mixing, stratified and rotating flows with particular emphasis on turbulence in these flows.
