Eric Cummings
Sandia National Laboratories

Eric Cummings received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics from Caltech in 1995, having developed laser-induced thermal acoustics (LITA), a nonlinear optical diagnostic technique. After conducting post-doctoral research at GALCIT applying LITA to high-temperature gases and unsteady flows, he started LabSmith, a company that makes laboratory electronics. Joining Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA in 1998, he created the Applied Microfluidic Physics laboratory where he currently conducts research. At Sandia, he has studied the physics of electrokinetic flow, developed diagnostic techniques for microflows, and devised fluidic microdevices that exploit micro- and nano-scale physical effects.
