Miscible displacements in porous media

Eckart Meiburg, University of Southern California

High-resolution direct numerical simulations of miscible displacements in homogeneous and heterogeneous porous media are presented. Mobility ratios of up to 150, and Peclet numbers up to 2,000 are investigated, along with random permeability distributions characterized by different correlation lengths and variances. The influence of these parameters on both the local and the global properties of the unstably evolving displacement front is discussed.
