Abstract-
We have recently discovered a class of high regression rate fuels for use in hybrid rockets. To date, regression rates three to four times that of a conventional fuel have been observed in a small hybrid motor operating in our laboratory. This new fuel can be the basis for a hybrid rocket with a simpler grain design, reduced cost, reduced complexity and increased performance. The fluid mechanics of the combustion process will be discussed along with our laboratory experiments and several sounding rocket flights carried out recently in the Black Rock desert area of northern Nevada.
