Stanford University

Professor Sanjiva Lele is an Associate Professor at Stanford University with joint appointments in the department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Mechanical engineering. His research interests include studies of unsteady aerodynamic phenomena, instabilities, turbulence and acoustics. He has developed computational algorithms for high-fidelity numerical simulations and his work is supported by Boeing, NASA, and the US Air Force. Professor Lele received his B. Tech. from IIT Kanpur, India in 1980. He completed his Ph. D. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1985 and worked at NASA Ames for four years before joining Stanford in 1990. He teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in fluid mechanics, acoustics, and mathematics. He is a recepient of the F. N. Frankiel Award from the American Physical Society, the R. T. Knapp Award from American Society of Mechanical Engineering and was awarded the Principal Young Investigator Award by the National Science Foundation. Since 1993, he has been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Fluid Mechanics.
