Leonhard Kleiser

Institute of Fluid Dynamics
ETH Zurich

Leonhard Kleiser has been a full Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Institute of Fluid Dynamics of ETH Zurich since 1994. After studying mathematics and physics at the University of Freiburg, he worked for six years as a scientific staff member at the Karlsruhe Research Center, where he was involved with the development of numerical methods and numerical flow simulations. In 1982 he received the doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH). That same year he transferred to the German Aerospace Research Establishment (DLR) at the Gottingen Research Center, where he took responsibility for building up the «Transition and Turbulence» research group at the Institute for Theoretical Fluid Mechanics.
Prof. Kleiser's main research areas are turbulent flows and laminar-turbulent transition, which are investigated by direct and large-eddy simulations, and the development of high-resolution numerical methods. He is currently Chairman of the EUROMECH European Turbulence Conference Committee and President of the Swiss ERCOFTAC Pilot Center.
