Abstract-
We report striking new structures revealed through exploratory experimental investigations of free surface flows, and outline accompanying theoretical developments. Particular attention is given to polygonal hydraulic jumps, the polygonal fluid sheets generated with a water bell source geometry, and to the fluid chains and fishbones generated by the collision of two laminar jets. The hydrodynamic propulsion of water striders is touched upon.
