Stefan Llewellyn Smith

Stefan Llewellyn Smith has been an assistant professor in the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCSD since 1999. He received an undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1991, and a Certificate of Advanced Study (Part III of the Mathematical Tripos) in 1992. After a year in Massachussetts, he worked with David Crighton in DAMTP, receiving his Ph.D. in 1997. He then spent a year as a post-doctoral researcher at Scrippss Institution of Oceanography and two years as a research fellow in DAMTP, before coming back to UCSD's upper campus. His interests are fluid mechanics, especially geophysical and environmental fluid mechanics, and applied mathematics.
