Bjorn Stevens received Bachelors and Masters of Science Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University. He took his PhD in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University in 1996. From 1996-1998 he was a postdoctoral fellow with the Advanced Study Program of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. In 1998-1999 he visited the Max Plank Institute fur Meteorologie in Hamburg Germany as a Humboldt Fellow, before accepting an appointment as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at UCLA. He was the 2002 recipient of the Clarence Leroy Meisinger Award of the American Meteorological Society. Since January 2003 he has served as an Editor of the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences, and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in July of 2003. His interests relate mostly to atmospheric moist convection, its interaction with boundary layers and turbulence, and the implications of these interactions for larger-scale circulations.
