Richard I. Klein received his B.S.in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics from Brandeis University and Harvard Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in 1975. He became a staff scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1981 and has been on the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley since 1983 where he is currently Adjunct Professor of Astronomy. His areas of research include multi-dimensional radiation- hydrodynamics, star formation, gas dynamics in the interstellar medium, high energy astrophysics of neutron stars, computational studies of spectral line transport, and computational and Nova Laser studies of hydrodynamic instabilities in the present of strong shocks.
